Neo-soul group The Internet have just released their fourth studio album, entitled Hive Mind, the follow-up to their Grammy-nominated 2015 album. The new album brings former Odd Future members Syd and Matt Martins back together with Steve Lacy, Patrick Paige, and Christopher Smith to expand upon the sounds of the excellent summer single "Come Over."
The Internet's return is welcome after a three-year hiatus where the members were able to focus on their solo careers. Frontwoman Syd released a very impressive R&B album that made our Top Hip-Hop/R&B Albums of 2017, while Steve Lacy most notably produced Kendrick Lamar's "PRIDE," one of the standout tracks from DAMN.
The chemistry the group has on this new album is unmatched by their previous releases though, and it shows that they can do their best work when collaborating together. The dense tracks pack so much into each of their running times that it's going to take multiple listens to fully appreciate everything. Steve Lacy's guitar work perfectly compliments Syd's soothing singing voice, while funky basslines and horns ensure their sound never gets stale.
With no skits, interludes, or filler, this project is just an hour of great music that will make the perfect album to put on anytime this summer. Enjoy!
