Tycho Enters New Era with Seventh Studio Album ‘Infinite Health’

||, |,

San Francisco songwriter, musician, and producer Scott Hansen began making breathtakingly beautiful music under the alias Tycho 23 years ago. Two decades, two GRAMMY nominations, and six albums later, he has returned to mark the beginning of the third era of Tycho with his seventh studio album Infinite Health via Mom + Pop Records and Ninja Tune. With Infinite Health, Tycho set out to make this album sound “as different as possible.” With an emphasis on the more uptempo and danceable parts of Tycho’s music, he with the help and co-production of Chris Taylor of the indie band Grizzly Bear were able to accomplish just that.

Phantom,” the track Tycho spent the most time on and also his favorite track on the album, is a joyous and upbeat track that maintains the optimistic and curious nature in Tycho’s music. The album’s title track, “Infinite Health” features Cautious Clay and sees Tycho’s psychedelic melodies play off of additional co-production from the uber talented producer and drummer Kaelin Ellis. It’s definitely one of the standouts on the project. The album closes with the ambient and transcendental “Epilogue.” Coincidentally (or not so coincidentally), Tycho’s 2006 debut album was titled Past is Prologue. You can’t move forward without ever looking back, and this album was creatively and conceptually the perfect way for Tycho to enter his third era.
