Vampire Weekend Share 2 Extended Versions of Their Song “2021”

||, |,

Two years ago, Vampire Weekend shared Father of the Bride after a six year period between albums. Today, the band revisits the project to deliver two new versions of the now accurately timed track from the album, “2021.”

The Ezra Koenig-led outfit have enlisted jam band Goose and jazz artist Sam Gendel for two new “remixes” of “2021.” Goose posted to their social media saying that Vampire Weekend approached them asking for their rendition of the track with no restrictions—it just had to be 20 minutes and 21 seconds long. What’s funny is the original track was the shortest on Father of the Bride, clocking in at just over 90 seconds.

Both tracks offer up brilliant, abstract takes on a tune that was originally one-twentieth in duration.

The new remix EP is titled 40:42, and you can stream both new versions of the song below. Enjoy!
