Varsity Star Showcases Experimental Synth Work on “Mixtape” Ahead of New Album

|||,

Making his debut on TSIS today is Brooklyn-based producer Varsity Star. His new track “Mixtape” caught our eye (and ear) for the way he deftly wields and pushes the boundaries of synth music.

Living up to its name, “Mixtape” starts off with a rewind effect before delving into electronic bliss. Every verse offers a sonic switch-up. Some are upbeat, with layers of melodic synth and crashing drums, while some slow it down and let acoustic guitar strumming shine through. Throughout Varsity Star sprinkles in gleaming twinkles of synth.

“Mixtape” is the last single off his upcoming LP More Than Anything. Citing influences like Aphex Twin and the Miles Quintet, listeners can expect lots of experimental synths and multidimensional sound design.
