We are officially in the age of artificial intelligence domination.
We’ve seen the explosion of public AI tools like ChatGBT in the last few weeks, which can create anything from a convincing cover letter to a standup-comedy set. It seems like no category is unaffected by this takeover, and the music industry is just the latest one to feel its influence: David Guetta just played a new track that used AI to create a deep fake Eminem vocal at a recent show.
He explained that he used AI software to “write a verse in the style of Eminem about future rave” and then another software to actually make the vocal. The resulting bars have “Emin-AI-em” saying: “This is the future rave sound / I’m getting awesome and underground.”
The final version is pretty convincing; the only indicator that it’s not the real slim shady is that this AI software clearly still can’t match Eminem‘s prolific songwriting ability—yet.
Although Guetta has included a disclaimer that he won’t release the song commercially, we think this is just the beginning of AI becoming mainstream in the music scene, for better or worse.
