Kendrick Lamar has not only become one of the most dominate rappers in the game, but he’s quickly becoming the poster child for civil rights issues as his voice has represented youth across America. His relevance transcends music as his Grammy Award winning Best Rap Song, “Alright,” has become a protest song as videos have emerged of people marching while chanting the lyrics. He went on to snag 5 Grammy’s and counting including Best Rap Album, Best Rap Performance, Best Rap/Sung Collaboration, Best Rap Song, Best Music Video, and more!
We knew we were in for a treat with tonight’s performance as Kendrick never holds back on his famed TV appearances as he’s delivered must see performances in the past. He utilized his time on the Colbert Report to write and deliver an insane performance of a new song “Untitled” never to be released and solely be heard on TV and then went on to repeat this feat with “Untitled 2” alongside The Roots on Jimmy Fallon.
Kendrick stole the show with his Grammy performance, taking full advantage of his national television time to make a statement. The Compton rapper show up dressed in prison attire with chains to play a live version of “The Blacker The Berry” into “Alright” transitioning to tribal themes with a massive fire and then rapped a new track special for the Grammys.
