One of the longest running major festivals in the US, Bonnaroo recently announced it's full 2015 lineup last week. Along with the lineup announcement, was a teaser of the Skrillex and Friends SuperJam documentary, which was filmed leading up to and during last year's groundbreaking performance. Well today the festival has released the documentary in it's entirety for our viewing pleasure.
The teaser opens with a quote from Jim Morrison, lead singer of The Doors, who's band member Robby Krieger was actually apart of this very SuperJam:
"The new generation's music .. it might rely heavily on electronics"
SuperJams are known for being themed on a specific genre of music and bringing in singers and musicians from every genre to perform outside of their expected style; well 2014 was the debut year for electronic music. It only made sense bringing Skrillex to help host the epic set, along with Big Gigantic in which Dominic Lalli acted as the musical director and Jeremy Salken was the core drummer of the supergroup.
The laundry list of special guests included Zedd, A$AP Ferg, Lauryn Hill, Damian Marley, Thundercat, Mystikal, members of Incubus, Cage the Elephant, Warpaint as well as members from iconic American rock groups Grateful Dead and The Doors. Even some unexpected additions like Craig Robinson from The Office who showcased his singing skills in the mix. Seeing how an electronic curated jam session can be bringing in artists from across all genres is a massive statement for how far electronic music has come and become part of our culture.
You can now stream the entire documentary below and also through the U-verse Bonaroo website.
Also, Dominic Lalli of Big Gigantic and Paul Peck, the SuperJam's musical director and producer respectively, are both set to answer some questions about the Jam in a Reddit AMA later today (8pm EST). Connect with the Reddit AMA here > Reddit.com/bonnaroo
