What So Not Presents His “Love Letter to Dance Music” With New EP ‘Motions’

What So Not has been a staple of dance music for more than a decade. The quality and range in his music is a testament to his talent as a producer. It’s without question that the scene is better when he’s performing and releasing songs. Today, What So Not comes to us with what he calls his “love letter to dance music” with his EP Motions. Four tracks of emotive and ethereal What So Not and it’s spectacular.

The previously released “Lights Go Out” with Benson and Lucy Lucy, and “Slow Motion” with IMANU and MNDR set the mood for the project, that being transcendent and calm, as opposed to some of his other heavier works which are just as good. The lead single “Realise” with Habrakt and Maiah Manser sees Manser’s breathtaking vocals blend perfectly over a bed of warm synths and a mellow dnb beat. “Tower In The Woods” with MNDR is the kind of track where after listening for two seconds you know it’s a What So Not production. The verse carries a melody that makes you want to lie down and stare at the stars.

Additionally, each track on the EP comes with an accompanying cinematic visualizer. Another demonstration of What So Not’s creativity as an artist and expression of his art not as just a sound but visually as well.

On the visuals for the EP, What So Not shares:

“I have a place I go to in my mind for each song I make. A unique destination that fills the senses and enables me to return to the same stream of consciousness in order to complete the work. I would often try to commission works to be reflective of these settings to pair with the audio, but with so many tech advancements allowing new possibilities, I’ve been thoroughly enjoying diving head first into this new medium of expression myself.”

And on the music, What So Not shares:

“What is the sound of this feeling? This texture? How do you reflect audibly what it’s like to walk barefoot in the grass on a foggy autumn morning? Where do I draw creation from and what are these visions representative of in my psyche? This has been my exploration through this EP.”
