If there’s one thing we can all identify with, it’s the feeling of empowerment that accompanies putting your past pain to bed. Canadian electronic talent WHIPPED CREAM certainly taps into that emotion on her newest single, “CRY,” out now on Monstercat.
The single also marks her long-anticipated return to Monstercat Uncaged, after a year-long hiatus since “Light of Mine.” Radiating newfound confidence in “CRY,” WHIPPED CREAM channels all of her pain into strength and wastes no tears on the past.
As the Toronto-based producer shares of the single:
“‘CRY’ is a song about being at the end of something that has hurt you constantly. It’s about having no tears, words, or energy left to give to a situation. A situation that has caused you to become stronger by hurt and pain.”
Building a sonic backdrop around her powerfully emotive lyrics, WHIPPED CREAM constructs a verbose ambiance of gritty synths, skittering production, and a vocal tone that is both somber and yet eerily uplifting. Bold, defiant, and beautifully simplistic, the sonics are a perfect match to the underlying themes riding underneath this short two-and-a-half-minute cut. Sometimes, short-and-sweet is better. That is certainly the case with “CRY.”
The tune will also soundtrack the award-winning video game Paladins as part of the coveted Monstercat Crossover Pass, where WHIPPED CREAM herself will be reimagined as the bombshell champion named Cassie. Paladins will available to play in-game next month.
