As weird as this summer was, there was some excellent music released, including Oliver Tree’s long-awaited album, Ugly Is Beautiful. One of the album’s tracks, “Cash Machine,” is a punky acoustic driven call out of frivolous spending habits, and apparently it caught the attention of none other than Dillon Francis and inspired a ripper of remix.
The OG found its groove as an angsty alt rock jam and while the idea of an electronic infusion might seem off kilter, Dillon delivers in spades. He keeps the chucking engine of the tune right where it needs to be, but slowly implements bouncing keys to parallel the electric guitar. As he carefully includes rumbling low end synths and we work through the hook, Dilly launches us into a drop of mechanized shots and buzzing saws.
Remixing an artist like Oliver Tree is no small task, but if there’s anyone who could do it, it’s Dillon Francis.
