Jamie xx Releases Long-Awaited Indie Dance Remix of The xx’s “Shelter”

Fans of The xx have been waiting for this one for nearly five years. Jamie xx (who is 1/3 of the band) has released the long-sought-after Live Remix of their 2009 track, “Shelter,” which was played on the festival circuit back in 2017.

This version of the track transforms the original into an indie dance album, with twinkling synths and a pounding 4×4 rhythm. The vocals are pulled from one of their live performances of the track. There are also crowd noises in the mix as well, giving it a very nice live feel. The release also comes with archival footage of them performing the track. Jamie xx has essentially opened up a portal to take us back into 2017 for a five-minute journey.

This is Jamie xx’s first release since he dropped the heater “Idontknow” back in 2020. He recently announced a massive headlining show in New York City, along with Four Tet, Floating Points, Omar S, and Avalon Emerson.
