Jorja Smith is one of the hottest names in R&B right now, and she reminds us exactly why that is on her masterful new single “Addicted”.
Despite being just 23 years-old, Smith has been making a name for herself for a few years now. The Brit featured on Drake’s More Life album, and Kali Uchis’s Isolation album, who she toured with in 2019.
“Addicted” is her first solo single of 2021.
In “Addicted,” Smith sings about a relationship that isn’t being reciprocated, but one she can’t give up. The simple guitar, keys, and minimalist drums production takes a backseat to her powerful, wistful vocals. Her last few singles (most notably the ultra-successful “Be Honest” with Burna Boy) have been more energetic dancehall beats, but “Addicted” is an emotional ballad that returns to the soulful, downtempo R&B sound she established on her GRAMMY nominated debut album Lost & Found. The single release is accompanied by a music video Smith helped direct and shot on a webcam to help give it a personal, intimate feel.
While she hasn’t revealed any details of her next album yet, we do know one thing: Jorja Smith is on track for a tremendous career. You can stream this new single below. Enjoy!
