Shlump is an artist that needs no introduction within the WAKAAN family. While the self-ascribed “Alien Bass” purveyor has seen himself dip his toes into different labels over the past few years, he always finds himself coming back home. That is the major thematic staple holding together Shlump’s newest EP, Drift Away, out now WAKAAN.
The four-track offering sees Shlump creating a vibrant galaxy of bass-filled sonics. If it’s massive waves of heavy low end you’re looking for then look no further than the EP’s title track, “Drift Away,” which TSIS premiered early last month.
Another standout on the project is “Cuckoo” with Space Wizard, which voyages into deeper realms of existence through spaced-out synths, 8-bit tones, and paralytic drops.
Infusing elements of classic dubstep with his usual west coast flavor of otherworldly sound design, Drift Away delivers fully on the kind of forward-thinking nuance that Shlump undoubtedly picked up from his Bay Area upbringing. It’s a style that always has a home within the Wakaan universe.
