After six long years, one of Chicago’s finest producers Whethan has returned for the second volume of fan favorite Life of a Wallflower. If you’re a fan of Whethan, you know how big this moment is. Life of a Wallflower Vol. 1 was the soundtrack to many during their early fandom of EDM and was released towards the end of the golden era of SoundCloud in which Whethan bloomed and leapt into the forefront of dance music. Now in 2024, we’re getting the second edition from a more mature, fine-tuned Whethan and it is everything we could’ve asked for and more.
Via Good Luck Have Fun Records, LOAW2 spans eight tracks and features some massive collaborations. Previously released tracks like “MONEY ON THE DASH” with Elley Duhé, “ROOM IS ON FIRE” with Snakehips and AG Club, and more recently “STEALTH BOMBER” with the iconic rapper Flowdan set the tone for the EP and showed fans what they could expect.
The newcomers show the same level of energy and sonic diversity from Whethan and live up to the hype. “CRAZY4U” with MKLA is a clubby, pulsating house tune that can take over a set. “PLACE IN MY MIND” with Shy Martin is a more dreamy, glitchy house number that has all the feels.
Looking back at Life of a Wallflower Vol. 1 is nostalgic and like looking back into an old photo book. Life of a Wallflower Vol. 2 is a beautiful showing of Whethan’s growth and change and surely we will be looking back with similar nostalgia when Vol. 3 comes. Stream the album below and enjoy
