Chaz Bear is back with yet another Toro y Moi single from his forthcoming project, Mahal. This track, “Déjà Vu,” is the fourth piece of the album he’s released thus far, and just like the rest of the music, it’s undeniably dreamy and wholesome.
This track definitely has a unique sound to it, with a twangy guitar that gives us a glimpse of southern rock. Toro’s vocals retain their signature cadence, however, and will whisk you away into another world.
Here’s what he said about the track in a recent interview with Apple Music:
This one’s definitely a sort of a slice of American pie, sort of like a collage of Americana imagery, and it’s like a, it’s an ode to the Southern lifestyle. And I just really wanted to show some country boy. I never really showed my country boy.
Mahal is due out April 29 on Dead Ocean Records, one of the current leading labels for dope indie music.
