Almost exactly one year ago, internationally renowned rapper, Logic, made the jarring announcement of his retirement from music. Thankfully, that retirement seemed potentially short lived as he dropped a mixtape under a new alias, Doc D, only six months later. Three and a half months after that, the Maryland born artist dropped the new moniker and released a new song, “Tired In Malibu,” and soon made the official announcement of his return lats month. Since then, we’ve received a slew of new singles week after week and today, we see the culmination of his return in the release of Logic’s newest album, Bobby Tarantino III.
Diversity has always been a strong suit for Logic. Kinetic tracks like “Vaccine,” “God Might Judge,” and “See You Space Cowboy,” keep the energy turned up with dynamic beats and feverish verses, while pieces like “Get Up,” and “Call Me,” float through a smoother current. Across these various sonic mediums, Logic’s masterful lyricism and limitless flow run the gamut of brutal self-honesty to supportive optimism, all without any signs that this project is anything less than some his best work yet.
I think it’s safe to say we were all some kind of gutted when Logic announced his retirement one year ago, but for the sake of his overall well-being it was an essential step to take. It seems that time away was exactly what he needed and the end result is an absolute treat to listen to. Stream Logic’s new album, Bobby Tarantino III, below. Enjoy!
